Air France emerged owing to merging four airline companies, Air Union, Air Orient, Societe Generale de Transport Aerien and Compagnie Intenationale de Navigation Aerienne.
It emerged on October 7, 1933 and prior to merging Air France operated its flights to French and Europe colonies.
Air France in 1948 was the biggest fleets in the world and it became bigger in 1990 January 12 with a merger among private UTA, semi-government Air Inter and the Air France, the government owned.
Later, in 2004 May 5th, another merger took place between Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines that was Holland based.
They were owned by one company, but operated flights in their brand names individually as KLM and Air France.
