In 1928, Northwest Airlines started its foremost international flying to Winnipeg, Canada. It then extended to small cities and added more destinations over the time.
In 1930s, it changed from Northwest Airways to Northwest Airlines.
This airline and Delta Airlines, their SkyTeam alliance partner announced merger on April 14th and on 29 October, 2008, it received approval from the US Department and emerged as the largest passenger airline.
