Thai Airways International was established in the year 1960 by Thai Airways Co. (TAC) and Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS) jointly.

In the subsequent years, many European and American destinations were added to its network. In 1988, Thai Airways International and Thai Airways Company were merged to form single entity.
