Tiger Airways was established on 12th December 2003. After eight months on 20th August, it began selling of its tickets.

Initial hiccups were overcome in the aim of registering a meteoric rise in business.

Tiger Airways started operating flights from March 2005 to Macau, when all others were terminated by 2004 year end.

In 2005, it also resumed services to Krabi, when another Singapore air service, Silk Air, terminated flights as an outcome due to 2004 earthquake. However, by September 2005,

Tiger Airways had successfully ferried around 500,000 passengers in its planes.

In 2006 February, the low-cost Tiger Airways became prominent as the foremost Singaporean carrier to obtain permits for operating from Chinese aviation authorities so that it could fly to southern cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Haikou.

In fact, in the initial three months more flights were operated to Guangzhou and Haikou and in March 2007, services were operated from Singapore to Perth and then entered with South East Asian Airlines a tie-up.

This airline is looking forward to increase air routes and to develop a bigger fleet.

Tiger Airways flights have gained importance owing to their low-cost.

The Singapore Changi Airport is its main hub and is fully owned by a Singapore based company, Tiger Aviation.

At present, in Singapore, it is the low-cost airline with respect to the passenger transport criteria. However, stiff competition and mounting oil prices adversely affected the airline, but it showed a remarkable progress.

The airline has plans to purchase regional carriers and this is done aiming to expand services to pan-Asia. In 2007, the air services began aiming to reach to Malaysia and now, it caters eight domestic countries making it the most preferred international airlines in India and 19 foreign destinations.

Tiger Airways flights cover cities such as Chennai, Kochi and Bangalore in India and Xiamen, Haikou, Macau Guangzhou and Shenzhen in China.

It also serves Indonesia destinations such as Padang and Jakarta and covers Kota, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, Kinabalu and Penang in Malaysia.

It operates flights to Bangkok and Phuket and extends to Perth and Vietnam in Australia.

At the domestic front also it covers majority destinations within Singapore.
