United Airlines traces its affiliation to Varney Airlines, an air mail service established in Boise, Idaho. William Boeing in 1927 launched his own airline in the name Boeing Air Transport.
He soon bought other airmail carriers and became the owner of Varney.
In 1929, the renamed this company as United Aircraft & Transport Corp. later, United Airlines and Capital Airlines merged in 1961 becoming the biggest commercial airline in the globe.
In 1968, it became the UAL subsidiary.
United Airlines is the oldest United States commercial airlines and is a UAL Corporation subsidiary, an airline holding company, besides also a provider of air travel.

United Airlines flights are scheduled to Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. It also has non-stop flights to many cities in China, comprising of Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
This airline also served India and Japan, but now its services are terminated. It operates code share at present in India and is the only US airline serving Vietnam.
United Airlines till July 2006 was the second largest airline next to American Airlines considering the revenue-passenger-miles.
It also was third largest in total operating revenues, after KLM and American Airlines and fourth largest in the total passenger’s transportation.
