Since 1965, Eicher has been owned by varied shareholders and the German tractor became part of Massey Ferguson. In 1973, Massey Ferguson decided to buy out the German company. Eicher Motors then decided to sell their tractors and engines business to Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE), which was then based in Chennai.

Since Eicher Motors is mainly owned by shareholders, Daimler Chrysler plans to increase its stakes from 3.59% to 20%. Eicher has grown over the years and today it has a turnover of INR 19,000 million annually.
