Hero Motors India

Hero Motors is a scooter and moped manufacturer located in Delhi, India. This company is part of the Hero Group that owns Hero Cycles and Hero Honda Motors.

This company was started in 1960 with the sole purpose of manufacturing 50cc two stroke mopeds.

As years went by, it started manufacturing mokicks, scooters and bigger mopeds. The company was started by the Manjul brothers who had a vision and shared it with their coworkers.

Together, they brought Hero Motors to where it is. Today the company is still working under the leadership of the 3rd generation Manjul family. This company is a good example of a 3rd generation family working together to provide clients with satisfaction, quality and growth.

Milestones Of Hero Motors
For Hero Motors to get to where it is today there has to be an interesting history behind it. In 1956, when the company only manufactured bicycles, it was called Hero Cycles. By 1975, it was the biggest bicycle manufacturer in India. In 1984, there was a joint venture between Hero Honda Motors Ltd and Honda Motors of Japan which resulted in production of motorcycles.

These Hero Honda motorcycles became the number 1 motorcycles in India that same year. In 1986, the bicycle production unit of the company entered Guinness Book of Record as the world’s largest bicycle manufacturer. In 1988 a new petrol efficient machine named Hero Punch was introduced to the market.

This machine opened doors of recognition and the company was awarded National Productivity Council award in 1991. In 1993, this automobile company India opened its exports division. This export division spunned the company’s growth and production and as a result, that same year, Hero Motors became the largest exporter of 2 wheelers.

In 1996, a large wheeled scooter with a choice between 50 and 75cc engines was introduced to the market. Hero Cycles division collaborated with National Bicycle Industries to manufacture high class bicycles. Today, Hero Motors division continues to be the world’s largest producer of 2 wheelers and has annual sales of 2.07 million motorcycles.

It also holds a market share of 48% and therefore contributes to the country’s economy. Hero Motors, under Hero Group, has 20 companies with 300 suppliers. It has also penetrated deep in the markets and now has 5000 outlets being operated by more than 23,000 employees. Its yearly turnover is of about 3.20 billion US dollars.
