History of ITL-Renault
ITL Renault was founded in 1899 by young aspiring engineers who were also brothers. Since they had previously worked closely with their father in the textile firm, business skills were acquired.
Lous in particular was a bright man who had already build different models of cars way before teaming up with his brothers. The first ITL-Renault car named the Renault Voiturette was test driven in 1989 and sold off to his father’s friend.
For publicity sake, the brothers decided to showcase their vehicles through motor racing. Through its first races in Switzerland Renault achieved instant success and the company rapidly expanded. In 1899, ITL Renault produced their first car which was the Sedan car.
Back then, having a car was considered luxury and this Renault car was costing 3000 Francs. During the pre war years and Word War 1 the company produced more buses, taxis and commercial cargo vehicles.
The war spearheaded the production of military planes, vehicles and ammunition. It was in 1996 that ITL Renault was privatized because they felt that its state owned reputation was hindering its growth.
This company later expanded to south East Asia, targeting a wide base of clients. In Asia it still offers employment to many people while contributing greatly to the country’s economy. The company also ventured into Eastern Europe, South America and Brazil.
ITL Renault is known for producing distinctive and outlandish designed cars like the Megane and Laguna which sold successfully. Today ITL-Renault has 20% stakes in the Volvo Group and owns Samsung and Dacia motors. Renault had a joint venture with Nissan in 1999 but with distinct brand identity and culture.
Presently this ITL-Renault India has a stake of 44% in the Nissan group. These joint ventures helped the company to grown and in 2004 it reported a 43% rise in its net income to 3.5 billion Pounds.
This marketing success let the company to the Fomular 1 races and in 2005 it won World Drivers and Construction Awards. On October 2008 the company announced plans to work together with Chrysler. The company is looking into producing new models of cars in partnership with other companies like General Motors.
