Not many motor companies in India produce mini vans, Maruti Udyog being the only exception which produces Maruti Versa; which a segment C multi utility vehicle.
In production since 2001 and comes in two basic models of 5 seating and 8 seating.
This micro van produced by the Maruti Suzuki motors was the second in line after Maruti Omni to be launched by the firm.
Maruti Versa could be called a replication of the Suzuki Every landy, it houses a powerful 1300cc 4 cylinder petrol engine, with 5 speed manual transmission all synchromesh and 1 reverse, generating a maximum output of 82bhp at 6000rpm and giving a maximum torque of 102Nm at 3000rpm.
The fuel tank has a storage capacity of 40liters with turning radius of 4.5mts. Marketed as a family car in India, it initially gained wide acceptance during launch but later the sales came down drastically, in current scenario Maruti Versa is largely used as a Taxi and is popular among weekend getaway travelers.
The mileage serves considerably fine as this car gives 10kmpl in city conditions and 12kmpl on highway roads.
In terms of looks and styling Versa scores above average it could be compared to the Maruti’s own Wagon R, 5 seater model; the seats have a flexi seating options and the twin AC performs efficiently well keep the interiors cool.
