Tatra Vectra Motors Limited was initially founded as Tatra Trucks India Limited, until 1997 when the joint venture between Vectra Group and Terex Corporation birthed this new automobile company in India.

Terex Corporation is the third largest manufacture of construction equipment in the world and is valued at $US 4 billion.

The company has a global presence in 100 countries and has interests in leading companies such as Demag, Unit Rig and O & K.

The Vectra Group, is a UK based NRI company that has vast business interests in India, Singapore, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Tatra Vector Motors is located in Hosur, approximately 35 miles from Bangalore. This plant is fully integrated and houses and engine assembly line, a cabin welding workshop, a testing plant and a testing track. In the 1850’s when the rest of the world was still riding horses, a wagon shop, that was later to become one of the world’s leading producers of quality trucks, had already been opened in Koprivnice, in the Czech Republic. Since then Tatra company has been at the forefront in the manufacture of quality trucks.

Business Interests
Tatra Vectra Motor’s manufacturing plant is based in Hosur which is about 35 km from Bangalore. This manufacturing facility has an engine assembly as well as testing plant, test track, and a cabin welding shop.

Manufacturing Quality Trucks
This automobile company in India designs and manufactures such high quality trucks that have seen it win the Paris to Dakar rally 6 times in the last decade. An example of such a truck is the ‘Tatra Design’ truck, a unique truck that features a central tube that is covered.

Other award winning trucks from this Indian automobile company are the Tatra “Hemang” and “T-815.” These are dumper trucks, which have gained considerable presence in mining and construction industries as they are able to function in some of the most difficult terrains in India.

Soon after its inception, Tatra India Motors produced its first truck in 1998, which was known as T-815 Dumper. In March 2002, the company launched the ‘Hemang’, another dumper, with a payload of 28 tons. In January of the following year, Tatra Motors commissioned their own in house cabin welding shop. In December of the same year, 2003, they received ISO 9001 certified by NSA-QSR. In February 2004, they commissioned their engine assembly and testing facility in India.
