Gracy Singh
Gracy Singh is an Indian actress with roles in both television and film.
Early Life
Gracy Singh was born on July 20, 1980 in Delhi, India into a Punjabi family. She was an avid dancer and had actively participated in her school plays.
She started taking Bharat Natyam lessons during her vacations from school.
After completing her schooling, Gracy Singh began her career as dancer in the dance group "The Planets" along with Ronica Jacobs. It was during this time that she was noticed by Sanjiv Bhattacharya in one of her dance shows and was offered the role of 'Dinky' in the soap opera "Amaanat".
Film Career
The role in “Amaanat” led to roles in movies for Gracy Singh. Her roles in "Hu Tu Tu" and "Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rahte Hain" were small but did lead to her big break as a Bollywood actress in the hit film, “Lagaan: Once upon a time in India”.
“Lagaan” became the third Hindi language film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Gracy was acclaimed for her debut role and received the Zee Cine Best Debutant Award. The success of this role turned Gracy into a Bollywood celebrity but Gracy’s success was just beginning.
Gracy then performed in a number of hit films in both Hindi and Telugu including “Munnabhai M.B.B.S.”, “Armaan”, “Gangaajal”, and “Santosham”. She had appeared in so many hit films that she was called the 'lucky mascot' in the film industry. Unfortunately her next role as the title character in the film “Muskaan” was not as well-received.
This impacted her career and she appeared to disappear from the film scene. However, Gracy has continued working in other movies and has even completed her first action role in the film, “Desh Drohi” where she performed some of her own stunts. Another film, “Aseema” is slated for release in 2009.
Although Gracy may have been quiet for a while, she is still a hot celebrity in India and it will be interesting to see where her career goes.
