Nargis Dutt

Early life
Born in the city of Calcutta, where the renowned Mother Teresa worked most of her life, Nargis Dutt’s mother Jaddanba was a renowned Muslim musician and moviemaker in her own right.

So Nargis one of the best Bollywood actresses of her times could be said to be cut from the same cloth.

Her father was called Uttamchand Mohanchand and was from Rawapindi of Hindu Mohyal descent.

At about 5 years old the Bollywood celebrity became a child star with a screen name, Baby Rani; the role was made possible by her mother.

On Screen Debut
After her roles as a childhood protégé, the Bollywood celebrity, whose real name is Fatima, landed a role in a film that sealed her nickname, Nargis which means “Narcissus”, a flower. At the time of her role in 1935 she was six and of course, Nargis became her signature name for all her subsequent love movies.

The Bollywood actress was a new sensation never seen before in the world of Bollywood. Her act was a blend of loudness and drama, genuineness and ordinary.

Career
The most celebrated role ever played by the hot celebrity India’s has ever had was ‘mother India,’ an Oscar nominated film directed by Mehboob Khan in 1957. For her spectacular performance she won the coveted Filmfare Best Actress prize. Nargis went on to release many other box office hits with some winning her a National Film reward for top Actress.

Private life
Nargis got married to her sweetheart, actor Sunil Dutt in 1958 the same year that she left full time acting to settle with her husband and their three children. Sunil is from Jhelum and a Mohyal.

Alongside her husband, the Bollywood celebrity worked with a foundation taking care of convulsive children and later organized the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe. Her works of charity also engaged her as a benefactor of The Spastics Society of India and soon received many accolades for her social charitable work.

Nargis has been seconded to the Rajya Sabha and honored at Padmashree for her charitable and film endeavors respectively.
