Personal Information
Prem Chopra is a well known Indian actor, who delivered excellent performance in Hindi and Punjabi film and made appearance in more than 400 films.
He made his acting debut with Woh Kaun Thi by playing supporting role. After that, he played a strong character in Upkaar and became famous for his dialogue delivery.
Beside, he played villainous character in many films and received wonderful appreciation in the form of many prestigious awards that include Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award and Legend of Indian Indian Cinema at Atlanta City.
Early Life
Prem Chopra was born on September 23, 1935 in a Hindu Punjabi family in Lahore. He is the son of Ranbirlal and Rooprani Chopra and having five siblings.
He spent his childhood at his native place, but after the partition, his family moved to Shimla. His father was having great desire to see him as a doctor.
Prem completed his graduation from Punjab University. After that he married sister of veteran Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor's wife and they have three daughters named Rakita, Punita and Prerna. His daughter Prerna Chopra is tied the knot with famous Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi.
Career
Prem Chopra started his career by joining a newspaper The times of India in Mumbai in 1950, but it was not his destination and he kept trying to get into film. Finally the good opportunity knocked his door and he was offered a role in a Punjabi film by Chaudhary Karnail Singh.
The film released and explored huge success at the box office and won National Award. The film excelled wonderful acting talent of Prem who was noticed by audience at great extent.
He then roped into a character of Sukhdev in film Shaheed. He then played villainous character in some some big budget movies like Teesri Manzil and Upkaar.
His performance in these movies was noticed by audience and made him popular in film industry. His unique way of dialogue delivery became famous and made him superstar overnight. He is known for some of his famous dialogues like Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra and "Mai wo bala hoon jo sheshay se pathar ko todtee hai". He recently appeared in film Dharti.
