Bollywood Producers

Bollywood is a different turf having the best performers in their respective field. Production too, is not a very easy task.

A producer needs to co-operate, supervise and control aspects such as fund raising, hire personnel and arrange for distributors for a movie.

Nasir Hussian was one of the famous bollywood producers as well as director. He first worked under A.R. Kardar.

He produced several movies and even wrote movies such as Anarkali, Paying Guest and Munimjee.

B.R. Chopra is another renowned producer. He started his career as a producer with the movie ‘Karwat’ which was a flop. He then came back in 1951 with ‘Afsana’. This marked his beginning.

Dwarkadas N. Sampat, another bollywood producer, established the Kohinoor Film Company and subsequently became a legend by means of the marvelous films.

He was instrumental in bringing wooden sets thus replacing painted sets that were used earlier. He made as much as 98 films within 1919-1929. Some of his best movies are ‘Kaala Nag’, ‘Vikram Urvashi’, ‘Handsome Blackguard’, etc.

Ismail Merchant is renowned for the movies that he made along with the director James Ivory such as ‘Heat and Dust’, ‘Howards End’ and ‘A Room with a View’.

He is today regarded as one of the best producers. He made films in India as well as America producing more than 40 movies and winning six Oscars.

Sashadhar Mukherjee was a bollywood producer who belonged to the very well known Mukherjee family of Bollywood. Sashadhar Mukherjee was one of the producers for Bombay Talkies.

In the year 1943, Sashadhar Mukherjee with Rai Bahadur Chunilal, Gyan Mukherjee and Ashok Kumar established another studio named Filmistan in Goregaon forming a partnership with one another.

Yash Johar is a bollywood producer who has made abundance of movies. He started out as a storywriter and later became a producer. He produced several landmark movies such as ‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Prem Pujari’ and ‘Guide’. There are other producers such as Ashutosh Gowarikar and Farhan Akhtar.
