Resignation Checklist
Resignation done in a fit of rush is total bad manners and against the workplace etiquette. Though, you may feel like rushing out, you should not throw your resignation papers.
Resignation is mostly done aiming for improvement and moving to more challenging roles.
Hence, sort your things without fussing over old settlements. Take a break and prepare a resignation checklist so that everything is in order.
Things to check before resigning:
Notice Period
Maintaining the notice period is very essential. Adhering to the policies of organization and placing your resignation with the acceptance of serving during the notice period shows professionalism.
However, if your employer demands you to stay longer, you need not oblige.
As per the employment terms, resignations must be accepted.
Resignation Letter
Draft a formal resignation letter, apart from resigning verbally. Things to be included in resignation letter are the date of your resignation to be effective and your designation, besides date of joining here and the last working date in that company.
Ensure you address this letter personally; politely leave it on the desk. Avoid sending through others. Send a copy to the HR department and retain a copy for yourself.
Handover Formalities
Check your resignation checklist and complete all pending tasks. Also arrange for handover period and leave detailed information.
Check with HR to discuss about Provident Fund amounts, ESIC benefits and other benefits such as pension and gratuity.
Last Day Formalities
Resignation checklist procedure should be completed. Patiently also complete the exit interview and give positive feedback. Avoid making snide remarks of your colleagues.
Take a written reference from your company and maintain the documents. Check with HR department and ask them to update your mailing address so that relevant documents and mails reach you.
Close you email account before you leave and hand over all company property such as phones, computers and uniforms, if any. Conversely, take your personal items and files from the workplace.
