Catholic Syrian Bank is among the best private banks in India, it was started in 1920, 26th November in Thrissur district, the bank started its work on January 1st, 1921 with a capital of Rs. 5 lakhs and paid capital of Rs 45270 and this took place two decades after the bank was started.

In 1960 many small scale banks were collapsing and Catholic Syrian Bank got the opportunity to overpower those banks, in August 1960 the bank took over the liabilities and assets of other banks in Kerala and in 1960 Catholic Syrian Bank was included in the second schedule of the Reserve Bank in India.
