Fashion Industry In India

India is considered as a fast growing economy in today’s world and one of the key factors that have driven the economy is the fashion industry.

Considering that India is a large country with diverse cultures, the country has a great textile industry that prides in having a wide range of its own unique attire.

However, this was not the case after the country’s independence. Due to certain bureaucracies, the textile industry had sort of dissolved until the government put in stringent measures and revived the sector.

The industry recorded a significant growth in the 1980s and most increasing the labor force. This in turn reduced unemployment in the country and turned the wheels of economy to a positive angle.

Due to the employment levels rising, the rural areas started developing and some of the best designers being realized from these areas who were mostly in the weaving industry.

As we know, India has a rich textile industry that is unique to its country. Today, due to some western influence, the trend of the old fashion is eroding and designers are coming up with unique designs that incorporate the Indian and the western styles.

The textiles are made in such a way that it will appeal to the Asian and the western market making the brand a unique and envy to many designers.

Except for the textile industry, fashion in India covers other items such as traditional embroideries such as Zardosi, Crewel and Chikhan, jewelry, and also body arts which are done by heena which is a major fashion statement in women.

Jewelry come in form of bangles or bracelets made from gold, brass, silver and other precious metals, rings, necklaces which are also used in religious festivals to signify one thing or the other and anklets which most of the time are used as musical instruments by women.

We also find that the saree is a traditional outfit; each generation has modified the cloth that is made from a fabric of 6 yards wrapped around a woman who is expected to wear a matching blouse. The saree is like the national dress in the country and from towns to rural areas, we find that this apparel is worn in different occasions and in different designs although the 6 yard wrap is the key item. Men also have a wide range of apparels that are worn in tradition and western settings.
