Since the time drew was a child she started participating in auditions and before anyone knew it she landed her leading acting work in a Puppy Choice dog food TV commercial. This was at the time when she had barely turned one year old. Along with that she also made an appearance on Pillsbury chocolate chip cookies and Rice Krispies cereal commercials.
When she was two, Barrymore debuted on the TV movie “suddenly Love” in the year 1978, as a boy. After a while longer at the age of hardly four she was given a role of acting as William Hurt's daughter, Margaret Jessup, in the film edition of Paddy Chayefsky's fantasy novel, Altered States (1980).
She acquired a wide ranging appreciation and acknowledgement when she was hardly seven years old. At the time when her godfather and distinguished and most popular director Steven Spielberg gave her an imperative and attention grabbing role of sweet kid sister “Gertie” in the runaway success and that’s the time her career had almost reached the peak.
This was the first role that enabled her to win a Young Artist Award for Best Young Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Along with that drew was labeled as the youngest-ever host for the NBC hit, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. She had made an appearance on this show in the month of November 1982.
