The Royal Trek
Whilst you will still pass through many remote villages, these regions are so
unspoilt as to have no tea-houses, and you will need to camp. Again, the range
of mountains you can view on these treks is superb.
Day 1 Kathmandu - Pokhara
Fly or drive to Pokhara (200km.) Overnight camp at the lakeside.
Day 2 Pokhara - Kalikathan
A short drive to the beginning of the trail, which winds through cultivated fields of almost luminous green in the right season before climbing gently up a ridge to Kalikathan 1370m.
Day 3 Kalikathan - Shaklung
The trail continues to follow the ridge through dense forest, and winds past a number of small villages and tea shops. A final short but steep climb through the forest brings you to the Gurung village of Shaklung (1730m.)
Day 4 Shaklung - Chisopani
Descending steeply, the trail provides spectacular and ever-changing views of Annapurna 2, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu and Himalchuli, before climbing once more up to Chisopani village. We camp on the ridge above the village for the best mountain views.
Day 5 Chisopani - Pokhara
Following the ridge down for an hour or so, the trail then descends steeply by means of a stone staircase cut alongside a fast-flowing stream. The path crosses rice fields and undulates gently before reaching Begnas Bazaar, from which it is only a short drive back to Pokhara.
