SHIVAPURI TREK
Few people trek around the Kathmandu valley. Yet it offers a rich insight into
the lives, history, culture and religion, together with the picturesque daily
toil in the fields of its inhabitants. The valley rim lies between 1800 and
2800m and in spring offers early flowering rhododendrons. In autumn and winter
there are wonderful mountain vistas which can, from certain view-points, stretch
from Everest in the east to Annapurna in the west.
Day 1 Kathmandu - Shivapuri
A short drive from Kathmandu brings us to Budaneelkantha, from where we trek up
through beautiful virgin oak forest in the National Park of Shivapuri and along
a ridge with spectacular views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang and
Jugal Himal. We camp at Shivapuri (2732m) which offers outstanding views of the
Himalaya from the campsite on the flat, grassy summit.
Day 2 Shivapuri - Dhap
A ridge-top walk all the way, your gaze is forever divided between the Shivapuri
watershed forest and the panoramic views of the Himalaya. We camp at the small
village of Dhap.
Day 3 Dhap - Nagarkot
We walk through the forest to the popular hill town of Nagarkot, from where spectacular views of Gaurishankar and Mt. Everest are to be had.
Day 4 Nagarkot - Kathmandu
Early morning view of sunrise and walk down hill to Chanagunarayan, situated at the end of along ridge which runs well into the valley, it is said to have been built in 323 A.D. The temple is richly decorated with sculptures and carvings. Drive to Kathmandu for Overnight.
