Occasions in India- Teacher's Day

Teachers influence many people and they are the main people who mold the lives of their students.

Teachers who do not maintain any barriers and speak to students receive the required recognition and gratitude.

Teachers are nowadays overburdened with responsibilities and workload.

The life and financial stress has challenged the teachers as they also have their families to look after.

However, respecting the teachers is a must as they also need adequate encouragement as well as support from the community.

Students should appreciate the devotion of their teachers and this can be appropriately done on the teacher’s day. Socrates was a wonderful teacher as he was a learner and a teacher. He believed in love and friendship as the path to pursue goodness and wisdom.

He felt the divine power was in teaching. In India the teacher’s day is celebrated on 5th September as this is the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. In 1962, he was the Indian president and his friends as well as students approached to request him to celebrate his birthday.

Instead he asked that day to be celebrated as the teacher’s day as a love for his profession of teaching. Indians always pay respect to their teachers and also call them as Guru.

The teacher’s role remains the same even today as they stay as guides and create conducive conditions for overall development. Similarly, students stay thankful for the support.

Nowadays, the teachers are referred to as sir or madam. In the way of expressing the thanks, the teacher’s day is celebrated in India as a tribute towards their hard work in educating a child as well as in shaping the career of each child.

Dr. Radhakrishnan’s birthday is observed as the teacher’s day as he was a great teacher as well as scholar of those times.

Students dress up identical to their teachers and take the classes on their behalf on the teacher’s day. It is also noted that some teachers sit in the classes while the students are teaching.

This gives the teachers an opportunity in comprehending about the knowledge of the students and the way they teach their students. This gives a nice platform for the students and the teachers to comprehend each others position.

Many schools also organize functions on this day and students take part in various programs. However, on this day the efforts of teachers are realized and this also offers a chance to the students to have a healthy interaction with the teachers.
