Religions in India-Islam

Islam is a prominent religion in India forming 12% of the India population. Islam came to India in the 8the century after conquering Sindh province.

The Islam influence on the Indian society is stronger and the reason this influence is mainly owing to the Muslim rulers who have ruled India for a long period of time.

The largest Muslim population is Indonesia and India subsequently follows the lead.

Islamic religion followers constitute the religious minority and make India the largest Islamic nations.

Since independence there are many cabinet and state chief ministers.

They held responsible positions in all walks of life. Muslims in India are divided in two sects such as Sunni and Shia. These sects have different schools.

However, the Khoja and Bohra Muslims are the prominent communities in west India. Kerala, in south India has the Mopillah community owing to the Arab merchants who descended and another community is Pathans.

Muslims coming from Afghanistan were known as Pathans and they had the surname as Khan. These Pathans were considered to be honest, brave and righteous.

Prophet Mohammad propounded the Islam religion and it has its genesis in Saudi Arabia as well. He was believed to be the messenger of God who had come preach lessons. Muslims are as well known as Mohammedans.

Muslims follow the sacred book Quran that consists of the revelations from Allah. This book was revealed to Mohammad through angel Jibreel. Islam is the acceptance of Allah as god having Mohammad to be his prophet.

Muslims are expected to perform devotional exercise called Namaaz daily five times and the Ramzan is celebrated in the ninth month as per Muslim calendar. They observe Roza as a fasting period from dawn to dusk for the entire month.

They strongly believe that at least once a life time they should visit Mecca, the birthplace of their prophet, Mohammad. Mecca is considered to be the pilgrimage for Muslims and is called as Haj.

The Muslims contribute a part of their income to the poor. Muslims worship place is known as mosque of Masjid and the five ingredients constituting Islam are Shahda, Roza, Namaaz, Zakat and Haj.

Islam religion is completely based on divine revelations and majority of the Muslims are the Sunnis. The Shia Muslims consider it as the main authority.

The immigration of Muslims began with the establishment of the Mughal dynasty. The Muslim population has seen a constant increase since the conversion. The strength of the population made it effective for the partition in 1947.
