Sports in India - Athletics

Sports in India are played extensively and athletics is the popular form of sports.

India has recently produced eminent athletes excelling even the international arena.

Athletes in India started playing in 1948 in London and comprised of 8 athletes.

This was the foremost time that Indian women also took active participation in the Olympic Games in athletes and brought considerable success.

They also excelled in many championships such as world championships, Asian games, etc.

There are prominent and notable athletes in the Indian history of athletics including P.T.Usha, Jeev Milkha Singh, Anju Bobby George, Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Singh, etc. Athletics is the purest among all other sports and relies on the strength of the body than any other technological implements.

The performance can be improved depending on the strength of the body. The Indian athletics produce idolized and revered figures in the society and these achievements are elevated and glorified as super-human and extraordinary.

Athletics is unified term for indoor and outdoor games, but some games are categorized as traditional sports and the others are also witnessing proficient representation. There are numerous athletic events such as road running, race walking and many more.

The track events comprise 100 meters to 10000 meters, hurdles of 100 meters to 500 meters; relay ranging from 100 meters to 4x400 meters relay. The other events also include javelin throw, high jump, triple jump, long jump, shot put, pole vault and discus throw.

The athletics training centers in India is the appropriate place to find potential athletes. There are training centers developed in response to the increasing demand and the major responsibilities are regarding sports planning. Indian athletics have acquired the peak of excellence and as athletics involves all the sports events such as throwing, running and jumping, it is known as the track and field.

Track events include the events within 400 meters track such as sprints that are held indoors. The middle distance events range from 800 to 3000 meters. Steeple chase refers to the race that has water jumps and other barriers. The other common events are long distance covering 5000 to 10000 meters. Relays and hurdles are as well the common athletic games.

Race walking is a common event for 10 to 50 km. the other field events included in athletics is the throwing events are the hammer throw and javelin throw. The athletes are constantly trained to participate in various athletics. Recently, there is not much success accomplished by Indians in athletics, but in future there is hope to have best results.
