Sports in India - Taekwondo

Taekwondo refers to an art using hard material. This game originated in Korea and is a combination of traditional fighting styles of Chinese, Japanese and Koreans.

Taekwondo has gained popularity and has become the widely practices martial art in the world. This is the Koreans national sport and is also a recognized Olympic event.

Tae in Korea means to smash or strike using foot and Kwon meant to smash or strike using hand and Do meant the way.

This has made taekwondo to translate as smash or strike using fist and foot. India is developing in the arena of international taekwondo as a major contender.

Though, it is the national sport for South Korea, many universities and Indian schools have promoted and supported Taekwondo across the country in a big way.

Taekwondo is one of the sports in India as Indians are ready to explore novel fitness regimes owing to more health consciousness. This is apparent as Indians are not considering it to be an Olympic sport, but also view it as a fitness routine.

Today, in India there are more than million taekwondo practitioners. Now, it is high time that this sport is elevated to better levels. Taekwondo was introduced to India with one of the best masters- K Tigers- Ahn Hak Sun. this is the best international team for taekwondo demonstration.

This team is well-known in Korea and also in Europe, United States and Asia. Taekwondo event was held in 2009 January and had Korean delegations to attend this event. They also conducted workshops as well as celebrated the championship.

This event comprised of Indian cultural programs, non-taekwondo practitioners, taekwondo practitioners, Indo-Korean cultural exhibitions and certified taekwondo workshops. School kids and corporate working professionals will take part in this event was expected with nearly 2000 taekwondo practitioners.

This was done to popularize the taekwondo culture. This is the initiative to popularize and K-Tigers is arranging multi-city tour by the end of 2009 in the aim of popularizing the taekwondo culture.

The techniques of taekwondo involve front kick, roundhouse kick, side kick, hook kick, axe kick, crescent kick, spin kicks, jump kicks and kick. Taekwondo has belts as per the rank.

The colors of the belt vary as per the rank status such as the 1st rank to 10th rank with black belt, red belt, red tag, blue belt, blue tag, green belt, green tag, yellow belt, yellow tag and white belt. This is achieved stage by stage and the colors discipline the levels of their taekwondo skill.
