BERLIN INSTRUCTIONS FOR VISA APPLICANTS:
Requirements for getting visa
• Passport, in original, with minimum validity of six months.
• Visa application form, stating the duration and purpose of the visit to India.
• Two passport- size photographs (in colour).
• Supporting documents (this is necessary except for Tourist visas).
• Visa fee
NOTE: Visa application should be sent along with required documents either in person to the Embassy/Consulates or by post. Applications being sent by post should contain a self-addressed envelope with postage stamp worth Euro 4 (affixed on it) along with the application form.
(In case of more than one application per envelope, please ensure that the self- addressed envelope has postage stamps appropriate for Registered Post.)

(NOTE: American nationals having stay permit in Germany are required to pay extra service charge worth Euro 25 and those not having it, Euro 52.)
Mode of Payment
The prescribed visa fee can be paid:
? In cash at the visa fee counter only. Cash should never be sent by post, or
? by Postal Money Order, or,
? by bank transfer*
* Visa fees may be deposited in the respective Post Bank Accounts maintained by the Embassy and its Consulates General as per the details given below and the PROOF OF PAYMENT (Original bank remittance slip etc/transfer slip with the stamp of the bank) must be enclosed with the visa application to avoid delays in verifying the receipt of the payment. It normally takes 5-6 working days for the visa fee to come into our account by bank transfer If the visa application is sent by post, it will be processed upon actual credit of fee in our account and dispatched the very next working day, if the application along with fee is found in order.

Types of visas and documents required
Tourist Visa
? For the purpose of visiting India as tourists and/or for meeting friends and relatives.
? Normal duration: six months; however, travel agents or those who visit India frequently, can get tourist visas of a longer duration.
? Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible.
Business Visa
? For the purpose of business in India
? Normal duration: 6 months; however, frequent travellers and technicians/experts going to India in pursuance of bilateral agreements or joint venture projects (having the approval of the Government of India) can get long-term business visas valid for up to 5 years with multiple entries.
? Supporting documents required: copy of the invitation letter from Indian companies/firms, with which the applicant has business dealings.
Student Visa
? For study in India
? Normal Duration: same as duration of the course or five years, whichever is less.
? Supporting documents required: Proof of admission to the recognized Universities/Institutions in India valid for the duration of the course of study and proof of funding.
Employment Visa (maximum upto 1 year)
? For employment in India
? Supporting documents required: Proof of employment (contract & other terms and conditions) with companies in India indicating tenure of assignment.
Conference Visa
? For attending government, semi-government and non-government conferences
? Supporting documents required: Recommendation letter from the organizers.
Transit Visa
? For halts in India en route other destinations
? Normal Duration: maximum 72 hours
? Transit visa should be obtained from Embassy/Consulates before departure since the same is not available at airports in India.
Entry Visa
? For all other purposes
? Entry Visas can be obtained, depending on the purpose of visit and eligibility, which is defined on a case by case basis.
Journalist Visa ('J' Visa)
? Journalists can obtain Visas valid for three months (single entry) on submission of documentary proof (employment card or original letter from a reputed News/Media agency where they are working or by the office which has given them the assignment in India). The initial three month period can be extended by applying to:

? Journalists travelling to India to work in any branch office of Foreign Media/TV can obtain six months multiple entry 'J' visas on production of the letter of appointment by the Foreign Media/TV office. (This is also applicable to journalists replacing correspondent in India).
? For shooting of films (both feature as well as documentary), prior approval is required. Application for permission to shoot feature/documentary film has to be submitted in the prescribed format along with an undertaking.
List of documents to be attached with the application are:
1. Application Form for Visa
2. Application Form for filming documentaries in India along with undertaking.
3. Application for filming at protected monuments
4. List of team members along with their names, nationalities, dates of birth, passport numbers, place and date of issue, validity of their passports, occupation etc.
5. List of cinematic equipments with descriptions and brand names
6. Synopsis of the proposed film project.
7. Filming programme stage by stage and date by date.
8. Letter from the producer specifying the hospitality required.
9. Publicity Returns: TV Channel where the documentary will be screened (details of date/time/duration etc.)
(NOTE: Application Forms, Undertaking and information sheets should be signed by the Producer and submitted in nine sets. It may also be noted that the minimum processing time for visa in this case is 4-5 weeks.)
