GENERAL INFORMATION :
Fee
It may be noted that the total fee chargeable would be as listed at the Annex 1 plus postal charges / telex charges / special charges, if any.
Postal Charges
Applicants sending their applications by post need to add JPY1000 Yen per application and those applying at the Embassy but seeking delivery by post should add JPY600; this is over and above the fee listed at Annex 1 below. The applicants should also send a strong self addressed (but without stamps) envelopes which would be used by the Embassy for returning the documents after due processing. It may be noted that the applicants send / seek delivery by post at their own risk; the Embassy though uses registered post for dispatch of processed applications, it would not be responsible for any loss of documents.
Telex charges
The telex charges collected from foreigners for processing their visa applications depend upon nationality and place of their present stay and is chargeable as per the following table:
Japanese living in cities under the Jurisdiction on Embassy of India Tokyo 0
Japanese living in cities under the Jurisdiction on Consulate General of India Osaka 500
Non-Japanese foreigners living in Japan continuously for less than five years 3000
Non-Japanese foreigners living in Japan continuously for more than five years (alien registration copy would need to be submitted along with other documents)
Special charges
There may be some other charges, for example, in the case of US citizens seeking Indian visa need to pay in addition an application fee which depends on the type of the visa and is generally Yen 2750.

Processing Time:
Time required to process various applications depend upon the type of service being sought, the nationality and place of stay of the applicant and starts after all the necessary documents have been submitted by the applicant. The period in number of working days reckoning from the day all the documents are submitted-to / reach the Embassy is given at Annex 1. To illustrate, all visa applications from Japanese applicants living in the Consular jurisdiction of the Embassy of India Tokyo are processed the same day; thus the applications received from 9-11 am on a particular day are delivered the say day during 5-5:30 pm and therefore their processing time is 0 working days. In respect of services for which the processing time is more than 30 working days, the Embassy would inform the applicant in case the processing finishes before the due date. Applicants should avoid calling the Embassy to check the status of their applications before the due date. For better service, all applicants are encouraged to use email inquiries.
Personal Interviews
Personal interviews with the applicants, though not insisted in all cases, may be demanded by the Consular Officer.
